Mike Gibson

Sales Director, Wines and Spirits

Mike's background involves more than 15 years' experience across the breadth of the hospitality industry. Employed in various roles across the UK and the USA, he has managed pubs, run conference and banqueting departments and managed F&B operations in luxury hotels. All this plus a couple of years as a golf professional which further developed his love of wine! He joined our Wines and Spirits division in 2008, having begun his career with Carlsberg UK in 2002. His favourite foods tend to compliment his favourite wines, robust, full flavoured and intense is usually the order of the day. He is a real fan of substantial Italian reds. Extra-curricular interests include travelling, mountaineering and enforced DIY.

Phil Davis

Wines and Spirits Manager

Phil has a real passion for wine which started many years ago tasting wine from his father's wine cellar and this interest has continued to grow. His love of Italian wine is driven by his many visits to the country where their passion for food and wine is compelling, his ultimate ambition is to one day live in Italy. His spare time is spent mixing his passion for wine and eating out with friends, experimenting with many different styles of food and wine. If he is not drinking and eating you will find Phil on the golf course.

Jacob Ratcliffe

Wines and Spirits Manager

Jacob started in the Wine industry nearly 10 years ago working for a wine merchant in New Zealand, where he developed a love of Pinot Noir that continues to this day. He has been back in the UK for 7 years working for Crown Cellars and finds the most enjoyable part of the job working with customers to develop their wine offering and introducing people to new wines and spirits from smaller, lesser known producers.

When not indulging his passion for all things drink-related, Jacob can be found travelling the country watching his beloved Nottingham Forest most weekends or in some far-flung part of the world watching England play cricket; a glutton for punishment some might say!

Dougal Kenny

Wines and Spirits Manager

Dougal has been working for the Crown Cellars Wines & Spirits team since 2008 and has over 12 years' experience in the wine trade. It is fair to say that he is quite passionate about our ever-expanding range and is never more at home than when in his natural habitat: leading staff training sessions or hosting customer tastings. A seasoned traveller, he has been lucky enough to have visited many of the world's leading wine-producing countries and in his spare time can be found attempting to coax a tune out of his acoustic guitar, accompanied by a glass of Pinot Noir.

Cassie Lawson

Contact Centre Specialist

Cassie made the move to Carlsberg UK around 3 years ago as a Telesales Account Manager. She recently joined the Crown Cellars team after working closely alongside Wines and Spirits Co-ordinator, Brenda Coulson, who ignited her interest in the category and her drink of choice is now an Aperol Spritz. In her spare time Cassie is an avid follower of all things Motor Sport, attending as many races and car shows as she can. She also enjoys watching football, being a born and bred Leeds United fan…well someone has to be!!

TeamPic

Emily Goodall

Contact Centre Specialist

Emily has been with the Crown Cellars team for just over a year and has become an integral part of the team. After 8 years in sales and a change of industry, her thirst for Wines and Spirits has turned into her passion. Her love of wine stemmed from watching shows such as Frasier as a student - wondering why people were so passionate about wine- why would anyone be excited about this? And now she knows why! Emily’s life is so fast moving, so being a working mum there is nothing more enjoyable to her than pulling a good Sauvignon Blanc out of the fridge on an evening and enjoying a one of her favorite dishes. Her spare time is filled with keeping her son occupied and being outside as much as possible!

TeamPic

Gayle Sutcliffe

Contact Centre Specialist

Gayle has worked for Carlsberg UK for over 15 years, and has enjoyed roles ranging from Activity Co-ordinator to New Business.  Gayle’s interest in wine began when she applied for the role of Wines & Spirits Champion over 12 years ago, completing her Basic and Higher WSET certificates with Jonathan Pedley, which involved much more theory than actual wine tasting!  Gayle loves Old World dry aromatic wines and her favourites from the Crown Cellars range are Grüner Veltliner and Maya Lugana. Gayle loves to get away to the Lake District or the Yorkshire Coast with her family as often as possible and enjoy lots of long walks and outdoor pursuits, most of which seem to end in the local pub!

Michael Puckett

Contact Centre Specialist

Although Michael has only been with Carlsberg for a short time, he brings years of industry experience as an operator and bar trainer. With a history or writing cocktail menus and training teams on how to make cocktails he has a natural passion for all things spirits, an area where he is a bit of a geek, as well as a love of Old World wines. In his free time he tends to be either binge watching a box set with an Old Fashioned in hand, or struggling through a bit of ill-conceived DIY in his home in Leeds.

Paul D’Cruz

Contact Centre Specialist

Paul recently undertook his WSET Award in Wines and spirits to further enhance his impressive 12 years’ experience with Carlsberg UK. As a more experienced member of the Contact Centre, Paul has been on hand as a guide for the newer members of staff and is always available to help his colleagues with some of the more challenging wine queries we have from our customers. His personal favourite wine from our portfolio is the Franschhoek Semillon from South Africa but is known to enjoy many of our range!!

Vanessa Roberts

Wines & Spirits Manager

Vanessa has working at Carlsberg UK for 10 years with 8 years’ experience selling Carlsberg /Crown Cellars wines. Before that 7 years working for one of the UK's leading cider brands. Having worked in the Off Trade and On Trade side of the business, both in Wholesale and in Free Trade. Vanessa's passion for wine comes from spending many tasting evenings with Phil Davis, and working through the WSET examinations in which her very first exam was run by Jonathan pedley MW and it’s from there her enthusiasm grew on the subject!

Vanessa like to learn languages in her spare time, and her main hobbies are travel, cooking and fitness. When she doesn’t have a glass in hand,  she is usually planning her next global trip, Mountain Biking, or doing Insanity.

TeamPic

Louise Boddington

Wine Category Manager

Louise has over 15 years’ experience of working in the wine trade starting in an independent wine merchant before moving through roles with wholesalers, importers and wine educators to her current role as Wine Buyer at Carlsberg in 2004. Her interest in wine was sparked over 20 years ago when she signed up for the WSET courses and was quite simply ‘blown away by the subject’ and went on to complete the Diploma.

In addition to her passion for wine, Louise is an avid traveller and has taken the opportunity to visit wine regions in many countries, Australia being a particular favourite. Outside of work, spare time interests include football (as a long suffering supporter of the Toon), growing her own veg and hiking.

Ross Lees

Wines & Spirits Manager

Ross's passion for the drinks industry began over ten years ago as a General Pub Manager for a pub chain. He then moved to the other side of the bar and worked his way up to Account Manager for one of the major brewers - it was here that his interest in Wines and Spirits began. After gaining his WSET qualification whilst at Bidvest Foodservice this in turn drove a passion for wine and food matching which further drove his interst and passion for the wine category.  It was not long after this that Ross decided he wanted to focus and drive his career forward in the wines and spirits industry so when the opportunity to join Crown Cellars came along it was a dream come true and he jumped at the chance!

Outside of work he enjoys running, golf and being run ragged by his two kids. His favourite wines are big full-bodied reds, particularly Argentinian Malbec's.

Sammy Wilkinson

Wines & Spirits Executive

Sammy has been working in the wine industry for 9 years, since she turned 18. Her passion for the industry stemmed from helping her Nan make fruit wines for her grandfather as a child. Having worked for two of the UKs’ major B2C wine retailers, she has held a variety of positions. Sammy completed her WSET advanced in 2013 and is currently studying towards her WSET Diploma.  Starting out in wine sales, she has held positions including Wine Advisor, General Manager (of a busy city centre bar), Development Director of an online wine app, tasting room manager (in Napa, CA), and most recently as Wine Development Executive working mostly in NPD.

When Sammy’s not nerding about wine, she regularly attends festivals and gigs – or is at home cooking up a feast for family and friends.

Mark Relf

Wines & Spirits Executive

Marks passion for the category started just over 6 years ago when he started his introduction into wines and spirits at a company that sold alcohol as a food ingredient. He then spent 3 years tasting 1000s of products direct from the vats at the site and this is where he fell in love with Spanish wines and more specifically rioja. From there Mark moved to a wholesaler specialising in wines and spirts and focusing on helping their sales team improve their knowledge through tutored tastings. While working for the wholesaler he gained a significant amount of on-trade experience through specailsing in providing bespoke menus and holding tasting events for potential customers.

In his spare time enjoys creating his own cocktails and cooking for his friends and family.
